From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline including angels, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of characters who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.
This warrior group includes Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might look unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
First, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing started the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, striking Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.
The traitor then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each member has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires retribution.
- The adventurer knows the region and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- However, their status as key figures in the influential clan could enable the party reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the clan.
This means them few options but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
According to episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Seekers and Schemers parties.
